Description:

A bloody path has been chosen…

The war against the Titans continues, and they remain determined to wreak havoc on the world, but Seth has become something all gods fear. Now the most dangerous, most absolute power no longer resides in those who have been freed from their tombs.

The Great War fought by the few is coming…

All may doubt and fear what Seth has become. All except the one woman who might be his final chance at redemption. Josie will do anything to prove that Seth is on their side, but fate has a nasty way of changing lives, of changing people.

In the end, the sun will fall…

The only way they can save the future and save themselves is by facing the unknown together. It will take more than trust and faith. It will take love and the kind of strength not easily broken. No matter what, their lives will never be the same.

For what the gods have feared has come to pass. The end of the old is here and the beginning of the new has been ushered in…

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received the E- arc copy from Netgalley for my honest opinion.

Major Spoilers!! Do not read this unless you want to be spoiled!

This book will be released on March 7th 2017

I really liked this story. It reminded me of the shows Castle and Freeform’s Guilt. If you like mystery or thriller books, movies, or tv shows you will definitely like reading this book. The story is set up well and the writing makes you never want to put the book down. I like the main character Anastasia Phoenix because, in the beginning, she was just your average teenager in high school. Her parents worked for Dresden a science company. She went on trips all around the world with her older sister Keira and her mom and dad.

Later in the story, her parents get into a fiery car crash and die. It breaks her older sister Keira, who is put in charge of raising Anastasia which causes upheaval. Little did Anastasia know that her mom and dad have been spies for years! Keira goes to investigate her parent’s history with being spies in all. It’s Keira’s thirst for her parent’s double lives that in the end gets her kidnapped. Anastasia goes on a hunt to Italy to talk to a lead in Keira’s disappearance, because the police don’t seem to be finding out any information at all. She gets a lead from someone in Italy who may be of help.

Anastasia arrives in Italy and finds out her parent much deeper and darker paths that they have lived all along. In Italy, Anastasia discovers who took her sister and that her parents are alive! In the ending Anastasia discovers another secret that I myself didn’t see coming. She learns that Randolph Urban, the man who worked with her parents at Dresden and who happened to pay for her trip is her real father.

Once the CIA gets involved they make Anastasia and Keira go into hiding for protection. Later her friends who helped along the way Charlette, Marcus, and Julian meet again. Now the sisters are determined to find out all about their parent’s background. This is a really well-told story and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

Cassie and Laney fancy themselves amateur ghost hunters. When a carnival comes to town, Cassie embraces the chance to try something new.

Carnival workers watch the girls with a collective gaze that ignites in Laney a dark and dangerous fascination, leaving Cassie unnerved.

It’s not just their age or the unsettling way they stare. There is something in the shifting of their skin and the way their features seem to change in the shadows.

Cassie can’s shake this sickening feeling that there’s more to the carnival than meets the eye.

When townspeople suddenly start dying and bloody warnings appear around town, Cassie is lured into a nightmare where trees whisper and strange, shape-shifting men haunt the backwoods she once hunted for ghosts with her best friend.

Then Laney goes missing, and only Cassie can get her back. But the creatures of the trees aren’t simply going to hand Laney over to Cassie without getting something in return.

10872-of2bthe2btrees2bcover

Excerpt:

Laney had secluded herself at the edge of the party with Corey. Cassie still felt uneasy around him, though it was obvious Laney adored him. He seemed to really like her, as well. The intensity continued to bother Cassie.

Like the boy who was now across the clearing. They stared, searching, and Laney got lost in Corey’s eyes the way Cassie felt pinned by his friend. Where Cassie found it unsettling, Laney seemed only hooked, connected in a way Cassie had never seen her before.

Cassie continued her slow trek around the outside of the group, her thoughts becoming hazy and disconnected. She only had the one drink, and it normally didn’t affect her so strongly, but tonight she felt intoxicated, woozy, and uncoordinated. The people around her started to pair off. Small groups still laughed around the fire, but couples began stealing away into the woods, becoming evident only by the breathy giggles and soft rustlings in the dark. She just saw Laney, backing slowly into the forest, Corey trailing, her hand pulling him along. Her face was lit in the orange glow of the dancing flames, her smile bright, and then she was swallowed by the darkness of the trees. Cassie blinked, searching the spot her best friend had just disappeared from, watching the bramble for any signs of distress. It felt silly, she knew, to be so convinced that something was off. It was paranoia, most likely a result of the alcohol, but she couldn’t shake it. Her thoughts were uncoordinated and heavy, and it wasn’t helping.

Cassie’s foot caught on a low branch, one of the many that intruded in the shallow bowl of the clearing. Her reflexes were too slow to right herself. She pitched forward into a tree, her hands scraping against the bark. She jumped when warm hands landed on her waist, righting her.

“You,” she breathed, turning and finding the boy with the intense eyes staring inches from her face.

Excerpt:

He didn’t hesitate, didn’t speak. His hands raked up from her hips,
settling warmly on her waist, and he brought his lips purposely to hers,
pressing her hard back into the tree. She squeaked, surprised and shocked at
his directness—and more shocked at her response.

She didn’t protest, and he took full advantage of the gasp she emitted as
he nipped at her lower lip. The unnatural heat that had been plaguing her
flared into life, searing her insides. He wasn’t gentle, and he wasn’t slow; he
angled against her, his whole body pressing to hers. His mouth slid open,
coaxing hers to do the same, and his tongue slid along her own. She felt
muddled, confused. It was delusive, fast, and unexpected. She was frozen.

But he wasn’t. His hands came around her, stroking under her jacket and
up her back, his fingers dancing lightly as he drew them down her sides. His
kisses were heady, more intoxicating than the beer she had, and her brain shut
down. She kissed him back, hard and without thought. He pulled back from her mouth,
trailing his lips over her jaw and to her neck, tracing the bounding lines of
her arteries with the tip of his tongue. A sigh escaped without her permission,
and she felt his lips curl into a lazy smile before he dragged them up to seal
over her own again.

Her mind was hazy, but through the haze came a burst of noise. A moan,
loud and distinct cut through the silence of the forest. She started,
stiffening in his arms. He ignored it, his hands tracing up her body and
landing on her neck. His fingertips traced intricate patterns on her skin as he
angled her head into the kiss. She felt weak, unable to stand on her own, but
his body kept her securely pinned to the tree, and she didn’t move.

Someone, someone nearby, whimpered. Cassie’s eyes flew open. She didn’t
even remember closing them. Her breath came sharp and fast; she was gasping
into the kiss. He broke free again, bending back to the column of her throat,
his fingers leaving her neck and trailing slowly and seductively down her
front. Her head fell back to the tree, and she was blinking fast. It was
unreal. It felt so unreal. He was everywhere, surrounding her. Her mind was
clouded and her thoughts scattered. There was nothing, nothing at all but his
lips and his body and his warm, warm hands. She shuddered underneath him, and
he stooped lower, yanking the edge of her jacket back and trailing his tongue
over her exposed collarbone.

Excerpt:

I was folding shirts in the corner of the room when Ash walked over to me, grabbed a shirt from the pile and started folding with me. He stayed like that, in silence, as he folded three or four shirts before he finally whispered, “Follow me.”

I dropped the shirt in my hands and followed him through the room. We snuck out the door and down the hallway. Ash’s fingers circled my wrist as he opened a nondescript door and pulled me through.

We were in a supply closet. It looked like mostly medical supplies. It was dark until Ash flipped the switch and a low glow filled the small space.

“Well, this is cozy,” I remarked, looking around.

“Hey, it’s the best I could do under short notice,” Ash shot back. “I scoped this place out all week.” We stared at each other for a long moment before we both burst out laughing and I practically launched myself at him. It felt damn good to be in his arms and I couldn’t help how happy I felt.

It wasn’t the first time we had snuck off and had these moments with each other but it was getting harder and harder to make it happen. There weren’t a lot of places in Sanctuary for privacy and it was hard to get away from the endless duties we were committed to by living here. We took every single moment that we could to spend with each other. I never knew when I would get another one.

“God, I miss you,” Ash said, his cheek pressed tightly against the top of my head.

“How is it possible that I see you every single day but you feel miles away?” I asked, folding myself tighter into him. “Sneaking off every once in awhile just isn’t enough.”

“I know we’re safe and all that, but god I hate that I can never see you or spend time with you or even just hug you.”

“Agreed.”

“How are you doing? Really?” Ash asked, pulling away from me a little bit so he could look me in the eye.

“I’m fine,” I assured him quickly. Ash was there when the doctors talked to me about PTSD so I wasn’t surprised that he looked doubtful, his eyebrows jumping high on his forehead. I laughed. “Really, I am.”

“No more nightmares?”

I squirmed uncomfortably. “Not…often.”

“Zoey…”

“Don’t ‘Zoey’ me. You’re the only person here that doesn’t look at me like I’m suddenly going to go on a bender or something. I’m fine. I’m not going to break.”

“I know you’re not,” he inserted. “Sometimes I just…I forget that. But that doesn’t mean I’m not worried about you, Zoey. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to care that you’re still alone in that bed, scared.”

My lips pressed tightly together and my fingers clenched tightly at his waist. “I’ll be okay. I promise.”

“I know you will. If there’s anything I’m sure of, it’s you.” He winked at me and I smirked. The fact that the Ash Matthews charm was still in full force, even after the awful year that we had just had, meant that there was some normalcy in the world. “Now come here.”

His lips came down on mine and I answered with enthusiasm, my hands wrapping tightly around the back of his neck. A low rumble went through his chest, as his hands reached for the hem of my shirt. His hands were cool on my warm skin and I pressed myself tighter to him as my tongue traced a quick sweep of his lower lip. He groaned loudly, and lifted me up easily, placing me on a cart tucked against the wall. Supplies went everywhere, but neither of us really noticed.

My heart was beating fast in my chest as he placed a few light bites across my collarbone. A low moan escaped my lips and a smile stretched across his face as his hand pressed tight against my ribcage. My skin burned at the contact, even with the clothes between us. I grabbed the hem of his shirt and started yanking it over his head, tossing it somewhere behind him. My hands skimmed over his hard chest, loving the way the goosebumps raised under my fingertips. Ash deepened the kiss, his fingers tight on the back of my neck.

“Ash?” I managed to say in between the ridiculously amazing kisses he was laying on me.

“What is it, beautiful?” he whispered, his lips tracing an impossibly sweet trail along my jawline.

“I love you,” I said, my fingernails digging into his skin as my hands gripped his arms.

The smile he gave me was like a thousand fireworks in the dimly lit closet. His hands ran down my spine, causing little gasps to escape my lips, before they landed on my waist. He tugged me closer to him. “I love you. Always.”

Under Rose-Tainted SkiesUnder Rose-Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Norah has agoraphobia and OCD. When groceries are left on the porch, she can’t step out to get them. Struggling to snag the bags with a stick, she meets Luke. He’s sweet and funny, and he just caught her fishing for groceries. Because of course, he did.

Norah can’t leave the house, but can she let someone in? As their friendship grows deeper, Norah realizes Luke deserves a normal girl. One who can lie on the front lawn and look up at the stars. One who isn’t so screwed up.

I enjoyed reading this however, I will say that when I first started reading this book I wished the plot didn’t revolve around a guy. I will admit that made the story better and more fulfilling on behalf of Norah’s storyline, but I kinda hoped that the guy would not have come into the story until the end after Norah was getting a little better with her mental illness.

However, after finishing it last night I now know that Luke was the main reason she is better so I came to really enjoy his character and by the end, I realized that he was integral to Norah’s getting better. I did like that this story did not show the pretty side of mental illness, but a full-on image of how it is to live with it daily. At the end, I did feel like it was a bit rushed. Not sure if this is a stand alone book or series. If the author continues this story I will be happy to read it.
